Another intriguing instalment in the Narrowdale Mysteries sequence and another gripping yarn that I enjoyed reading. It was good to see that the main character of Amy was consistent from the first book, and her observations and wit and humour had me laughing in this book as much as in the previous one. There are a few additional characters in this story as well as the return of Amy’s friends.Again, this book is very well written and the behaviours and conversations between the characters is realistic. The author has continued to include live links to Amy’s blog in this book as well (ebook version). The storyline was interesting and engaging and hard to put down. The book was an enjoyable read full of great characters, mystery and suspense, and an element of creepiness with Amy’s humour breaking it up a bit so it wasn’t too scary. As in the previous book, this story kept me guessing right to the incredible end. A few things have developed a bit further in this book, like homeless man Edgar, and Corale and Shane, so I am certainly looking forward to any future books in this series.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery with an intriguing paranormal twist.

The Good:Let me just start off by saying that I love how this setting has endless possibilities. First, you have a clever girl who is prone to life-threatening idiocy, but only because she's curious and has some sort of abnormal fixation on figuring out why strange things happen and solving murders. THEN, you throw her into a town where strange things repeatedly happen and people get murdered, so you could literally write book after book after book. You're a smart man, Mr. Omer! But the the set-up isn't the only good thing about his books. His POV character Amy is clever and curious (I know, I already said that), hates school and tests like the rest of us (which makes her relatable), is adorably clueless about love and boys, and is actually pretty dang witty. Maybe it's because it's been awhile since I read the first novel in this series, but I feel like her "funny" came out more in this one. I found myself laughing as much as I was wincing or screeching. And yes, I do all those things while I'm reading. My husband and kids and dog can attest to that :)Another good thing worth mentioning is that Mr. Omer doesn't write predictable stories. In Moth to a Flame, I wasn't able to figure out who the killer was until Amy did. However, I did figure out another big reveal before Amy did, but I almost think it was intentional on the writer's part. I won't say much more than that for fear of giving it away. The Bad:There really isn't anything bad to say about this book, other than I still wish we knew more about what Amy and her friends look like. We don't get much more than hair color and body-types or accessories. And I couldn't tell you what her parents look like at all. Perhaps Mr. Omer did describe them (and I'm sure he did), it just didn't stick with me for whatever reason. None of that is really a deal-breaker though. The Ugly:Nothing to say in this category! In Short:Moth to a Flame is an excellent sequel to the first. I highly recommend this series!Favorite Quote:"How can everyone here be so loud? So cheerful? I want to scream at them to be quiet. I want to hit one of them. I want to kick the back of the seat in front of me. I want to smash the window and jump out. I want to cry. I do none of those things."

I bought this and the first book, Sleepless, for my seventeen year old daughter, but ended up reading them myself. I love that these two books are relatable for teens and preteens without dumbing anything down or neglecting to be intelligent, well thought out, and witty. So many YA books treat their young readers like idiots; this book does not. I also find that many of the female lead characters in YA books are just plain hard to like, and Amy is funny and smart and independent without coming across as self-absorbed, rude and rebellious. The story itself continues the arc from Sleepless, with Amy trying to solve a brutal murder in Narrowdale while also being preyed upon herself. I love that the story is creepy without being straight horrow, and a murder mystery without being a younger version of a cozy. I also really admire the way Amy and her young friends work together and rely on each other without the needless adult-bashing that so many books based on teenagers seem anxious to do. A really fun book, for teens and their parents.

"The thing the principal refuses to understand is that Ron Hammond, the missing History teacher, cannot be replaced."It's a great opening line that that takes us into another eerie Narrowdale mystery. Amy can't stop herself from forcing her way into a missing teacher's case, even though everyone is telling her to mind her own business. Just as in the first book, Amy has a dry and hilarious sense of humor. It may be even stronger in the sequel, and we also get some more interesting character development as she questions her own obsessive nature--her need to insert herself into dangerous situations. It's a great character flaw, and one that propels her into yet more terrifying and eerie situations.I'm a big fan of Amy's new relationship in this book, and I hope we see more of Chris. Overall, this is a super readable and creepy book, and it will put you right off walking around the suburbs by yourself at night.

I bought this book for my now 12-year-old daughter to read and review. Her review follows:Better than the first book!Whenever I think of this book, I think of Slenderman, that's how creepy it is. I loved the dog Moka! I liked Amy, and her friend Nicole. It was a good mystery; I didn't figure out who the bad guy was until the very end. I will definitely read all the books in this series when they come out!

I loved this second book about Narrowdale, which is a creepy place with lots of interesting things going on. The author makes the main character, a teenage girl, extremely believable and the story is fast moving, keeping you on the edge of your seat. If you like a good suspense book that's just a bit out of the ordinary, read this one!
