I don’t normally write reviews but in this case I feel like I had to let everyone aware of how awful this book is. There’s hardly any photos of the recipes and the instructions are awful. Mostly photos of Kristin when I’d rather see what the food is supposed to look like. I’ve tried 6 recipes, followed them all step-by-step, and they’ve all turned out gross tasting. And she needs more info on the recipes. Like the homemade fruit roll-ups - how long do those last? Do you store them in the fridge? And the index is hard to navigate, if you’re looking for ‘detox juice’ it’s not under D or J but under ‘Berry detox drink’, just stupid in my opinion. Just google her recipes if you really want to try them, save your cash.

True Roots has only been in our home for three minutes and we have already made the “Pudding Pops.” My three year old son opened the package and saw them on the back and wanted to make them right away! The ingredient lists aren’t too long, which is a HUGE bonus as a parent of a three year old and four month old. The ingredient list also isn’t of crazy items that I don’t already have in my kitchen.If you aren’t someone who cooks with almond flour, gelatin or nut milks than you might have to grab a couple things from the store but those items are readily available in most grocery stores nowadays!If I had to list one con, it would be that I would have loved more photos of the recipes. It’s 2018, cooking blogs are everywhere for free and have step by step photos.. still can’t figure out why cookbooks haven’t gotten with the times. The reason why most people make a recipe is because it LOOKS good! All and all, it looks like a great cookbook and I look forward to using it more!

Just ok. A lot of the dessert recipes don't turn out (chocolate chip cookies, zucchini almond butter blondies) - and I'm a seasoned cooked with a culinary arts degree. More photos of her than the food, that was annoying.

I was very excited for a book with dairy free gf options.I first open book- to zesty quinoa and what do you know? That’s my favorite recipe from allrecipes.com. Word for word exact same recipe. So that was awkward- unless Kristin wrote that recipe 5++ years ago on allrecipes.com.Moving past that, I made the choc chip cookies- says 15-18 mins and I checked on them at 10 minutes and my cookie sheet had turned into a massive cookie pizza thin as a cracker. I will say the cookie dough was very good at least. Yes I followed the recipe!Overall it seems like this cook book is a picture book of Kristin- I have never seen so many pictures of a person in a cookbook. Very conceited like and sort of awkward.Anyways some good simple healthy recipes, especially if you have kids, but I haven’t tried those yet.

I was watching her show. And drinking wine. And the next thing I new this was delivered. It’s got great recipes and I’m glad drunk me ordered this.

I almost didn’t get this book because of the reviews saying that it is packed with pictures of Kristin and not much substance. I have to say I completely disagree the recipes are (mostly) simple, all healthy, and diverse. and I’m glad I got it. Any cook book by any celebrity or TV personality is going to have pictures of the “star”. I think this has far less photos than some other celeb cookbooks I own.

Just like most everyone else, I’m disappointed by the lack of pictures of the food. I get it can’t be like a blog with step by step pictures but at least ONE picture of the final product would be nice. I love Kristen and definitely bought this book because of her Instagram stories and how delicious everything looked but I don’t need a million pictures of her in the cookbook instead of the actual food.Also- Ceviche is spelled wrong!! Cmon.

This cookbook is so much more than I bargained for! Absolutely love it. We’ve tried a handful of the recipes, which are easy to follow, amazing!

When I was learning to play jazz guitar I struggled for years to figure out how to play at really fast tempos until I learned the secret of memorizing 3 and 4 note 'motives' that I had so well memorized that I could play them with out thinking. Think of this book as 5334 chess 'motives'. These are the 'guitar licks' of chess. Play them over and over and over until you don't even have to think when you see them. They become automatic. Then when your clock is ticking you won't miss that 3 move checkmate that you only had 60 seconds to find. It does no good at all to build up a winning position if you cannot finish off your opponent quickly and efficiently. There are plenty of sites on the internet where you can practice tactics. They will NOT do what this book does, which is systematically train your eyes to recognize the patterns of trapping and killing an opponent's King. The ONLY problem with this book is it is BIG and the diagrams are rather small... But, hey! That is because it is a treasure trove. One hour a day every day with this book and your chess 'eyes' will improve without fail. After working on this book for weeks the one unexpected takeaway is that the beauty of these puzzles eventually turns working on tactics from a drudgery into something inspiring and fascinating. I never quite appreciated the aesthetics of chess as much as I do now after being shocked and awed by the beauty of something as seemingly simple as a mate in two.

I bought kindle version. I read it through kindle cloud reader in web browser, ipad and iphone. It is quite good. The format is one puzzle per page. The image can be magnified to whole page and easy to read.The answers of puzzle are located on appendix. There is a link in each puzzle in which link to the answer. There is also a link in answer page to go back to original puzzle page. It is convenience to check answer.The mate in 1 puzzles are easy but mate in 2 or 3 are more difficult. It is a good training to my calculation skill.

Great book. It will keep any chess player occupied for a long time. The problems start from mate in one with endgame scenarios up to mate in three. The combinations section afterward is very good as well. I must warn once you get pass the introduction there is nothing but problems no words or annotations just at the top of the page it will say white or black mate in (scenario 1-3). I'm new to chess but fell in love with the game I got the book for Christmas this year and I'm already of problem 1102 (I tried my own version of the 7 circles chess program I had off work for about a week and a half for the holidays and just tackled the problems) My friend who is rated around 1900 says this is a good book to have. I looked up the Polgar sisters and see why they are as good as they are having this training as early as 5 years old and sticking with it is genius in its selfirst. I'm enjoying this book a lot.

Fantastic. My advice is to get the 'hard cover', as people are complaining about the lack of readability of the Kindle and the paperback. The hard cover is easy to use and will last a life time. SPEND THE MONEY. This book improved my game, in as little time as a few days. My child will go from the children's books 'Chess Camp', to this Polgar book.

Sharpen your chess and general concentration skills with this massive collection of chess problems.I thought I would fly through this rather quickly but years away from the chess board have taken their toll.This is a great resource for me to get back in the saddle.

The claim by so many chess writers that "the best way to improve your game is by playing" is sheer nonsense. I played a lot and lost continually in early high school without improving one bit. This is because I didn't know what the difference was between a good move and a bad one. Also, I had no idea why my oponents made the moves they did. Playing didn't make me better; it just made me give up the game until now. I'm 61 and have just discovered how to improve my game and thereby actually enjoy playing chess. The biggest improvement came after I began studying Polgar's "Chess: 5334 Problems..." The first thing Polgar taugh me was how to look at the entire board. I'm still working through this book and it contiues to be a help to me.The second book that has improved my play is Chernev's "Logical Chess, Move by Move." It has helped me to discover the answer to the question, Why did my oponent do that?Now that I've learned what chess is all about -- beyond just moving pieces -- I can finally say that, yes, playing improves my game. But I would suggest, before playing yourself into frustration like I did, buy and study these two helpful books.

If you need one - get THIS one!!Any Ephemeris can get the job done on one level - but Astrolabe's, has a few extras, simply because of the way in which Hand approaches the topic: accurate, even-handed, positive-minded, charge-neutral, and extremely well-informed -- on this topic and many others (including the science informing astronomy). It is published in both noon and midnight versions, btw, so pay attention if it is important to you WHICH you purchase -- THIS one is midnight.Either would be fine for my level of usage - yours, too, if you're relatively new to the subject, unless you're working with a teacher who has a preference (s/he may want everyone in a class to have the SAME, so ask before you buy anything).Regardless of noon or midnight, for my money, anything Hand writes about or publishes is my FIRST choice on the topic (and I'm not alone in that thought, btw). So that includes this particular Ephemeris.FIRST, you get Hand's preface - that in itself is practically worth the price of the book. I learn something new every time I read anything written by this man.He begins by detailing the changes/additions in this version of the World Ephemeris for the [first half of the] 21st century: 1/1/2001 - 12/31/2050 -- containing considerably more info than the World Ephemeris for the 20th Century: * Moon both 00:00 E.T. and 12:00 E.T. * geocentric positions of (and daily declinations for) the 4 major asteroids and Chiron in addition to the "normal" planetary bodies, * Void-of-Course Moon data each month (with last aspect of the Moon in each sign plus time of entry into the next)- to name a few.You may not need that much detail right NOW, but you may want it later - and few astrologers would want more than one Ephemeris covering the same time period.The preface goes on to explain how to read this particular Ephemeris (*single* page per month, btw), before going into the differences between a lot of different ways of measuring time: Mean Solar Time, Universal Time, Greenwich Mean Time, Sidereal Time and Ephemeris Time - and how to use the Delta T Correction, for those who require extreme precision in chart casting (for inner planetary/Jupiter returns, for example).Now that science can measure more precisely, it is clear that the there are variations in the Earth's rotational speed (and that the net effect is that it has been slowing down), so that there are 1 or 2 "leap seconds" added each year - thus the need for Delta T. The tables are accurate and work fine. Not much to say after that.

The first ephemeris where we can read that even the most accurate table might show us a very good approximation of the actual position of a planet/the moon. With that said, it is very clear and I use it regularly.

I enjoy Robert Hand books....gotta get em all! Waiting for more books on order. It is wise to have several ephemerides...enjoying watching my collection grow!

Lovely photos--often lacking captions and a lack of illustrations or photos for particular tools or processes that could use some visual explanation. Some of the tables seemed interesting and helpful but the accompanying text all but invalidated them--ex. fruit planting season table vs text saying times are opposite in "the South." Based on the overlapping explanations and classifications of several states into regions, it's difficult to know whether or not I should follow the chart or do the opposite. Coverage of larger tools/machines did not mention how their use can compact garden soil, or destroy soil texture and therefore your chances of success. Amending clay soil with sand was an impractical bit of advice for "sweetening" as it actually just makes it into an impenetrable brick. It also described clays as alkaline, which at least as far as my mid-Atlantic gardening experience goes, is the opposite. Soil texture (clay, sand, silt) cannot be permanently altered without taking years (possibly lifetimes) but all textures can be improved by adding composted organic matter. The coverage of mulches omitted key information as well--the best (in long-term university studies) is arborist chips comprised of bark, twigs, and hard and softwoods. It was also claimed that mulches are cheap which is relative and it didn't really address chemically treated mulches and how they might affect edibles. The statement of adding sawdust as an amendment that absorbs nitrogen sounded like having the most challenging to keep around macronutrient needed by plants absorbed was a bonus feature. The recommendation of drying found seaweed as a fertilizer didn't seem to address the high salt content it might bring to plants/composts that it would be applied to. There seemed to be many missed opportunities for excellent edible gardening education within this text. I was also disappointed to see so many brand references. It felt as though the author might have been offered incentives to mention certain companies and products repeatedly. Overall, it was a lovely but superficial treatment of a topic that would require volumes to be "complete." Many of the issues it tried to address would be more accurately answered with "it depends" as to where the garden is. Trying to write specifics for the whole country is rather too ambitious. Contact your local extension office for the most accurate information and personal friendly advice for growing fruits and berries.

I like his flowing prosaic style, the way he interweaves the well researched historical truth together in event relevance and timelines. Sufficent detail to comprehend the personalities, units, scale, situations, maps and topographical description to make sense of it all tactically and strategically, whilst still personalising events sufficiently to maintain a personal connection on a level balancing its humanity. Importantly, he grants the gravity the historical record deserves without turning the tale into a turgid academic tome.Moral judgement of actions, personalities and political decisions of so long ago unable to be changed now which altered the course of so many lives are left to the reader to pronounce.Bought yesterday, I'm halfway through "Invasion Rabaul" already. I'd call it "a can't put down read", but I'm reading from my sickbed recovering from surgery and find fatigue prevails, otherwise its definitely in that category.If you're at all interested in the campaigns in the Solomons and PNG, the significance of the Battles of the Coral Sea and Savo Island, you'll A. understand the importance of Rabaul, and wanting to know as much about it as possible, B. want this book. In the early hours of January 23, 1942, a large Japanese force sat poised to attack Rabaul. Standing in their way were the 1,500 Australian soldiers of Lark Force. In what was soon to become known as Australia's darkest hour in World War II, the Japanese swarmed ashore and overran the small garrison. Many were captured, but others managed to flee into the jungle. Over the next several months, these survivors tried in vain to stay one step ahead of the Japanese. Some managed to evade capture, others were rescued, but most were eventually rounded up by the Japanese.Seen as sacrificial by the Australian government, the men of Lark Force were basically on their own from the time they reached Rabaul. The Australian government refused to reinforce the garrison, and when the Japanese landed, they refused to pull them out. These men were on their own, with no hope of assistance. The contemptible acts of the garrison commander only made things worse. Ultimately, many of the Lark Force POWs perished when a Japanese freighter they were on was torpedoed by an American submarine.Author Bruce Gamble has written a magnificent history about one of World War II's longest battles. The battle for Rabaul raged from early 1942 up until the Japanese surrender in August, 1945. Gamble's trilogy covers each aspect of this historical campaign, from the Japanese invasion to the numerous bombings by the Allies, until the Japanese were left to "whither on the vine". Lark Force's story is inspiring, and the acts of heroism against nearly impossible odds shows the character of these fighting men.I highly recommend "Invasion Rabaul" along with Gamble's other books "Fortress Rabaul" and "Target Rabaul". This trilogy does a fine job of describing one of World War II's most pivotal battles.

Anyone interested in the South Pacific theater of World War 2 should read this book as it vividly illustrates the hardships endured, the atrocities committed, and the heroic spirit of those men of Lark Force.

A great read. What those men went through after being deserted by the Australian government will make a reader wonder what the government was thinking. The stamina of the survivors to keep trying to save themselves without the help of the leaders, wow. The cruelty and inhuman treatment for the life of a fellow human being by the Japanese is unbelievable. I do realize this was war, however the Japanese went beyond the pale. I have the next book, Attack on Rabaul, by Bruce Gamble and am anxious the get started reading it.

About the Author

Anna Fitch Courie is an army wife, nurse, layperson, and the author of "Christ Walk: A 40 Day Spiritual Fitness Program" (Church Publishing, Inc., 2015); "Christ Walk Kids" (Church Publishing, 2016); "Sally the Comet (CreateSpace, 2015); and "Sally and the Constellations" (CreateSpace, 2017). Anna finds her calling where health and spirituality intersect. Anna is a registered nurse by training and has been working in the health care field for the past twenty years. More recently, she has been a consultant on building community coalitions on health. Anna is a graduate of Clemson University, the University of Wyoming, and Education for Ministry at Sewanee: the University of the South. She is currently enrolled at Ohio State University in the Doctoral in Nursing Practice program. In her spare time, she fights cancer, consults in public health, and runs Christ Walk, retreats, writes books, and blogs for "50 Days of Fabulous" and "Lent Madenss." Written from the perspective of a lay person with extensive knowledge of The Bible as well as time spent in personal growth, it makes for an easy and enjoyable process for the reader. The program works well for one person or a group and is particularly suited for Sunday School Classes, congregations or other organizations that would like to continue their spiritual journey in God's great creation.The author writes in an accessible style that is easy to follow, a style that is more conversational than academic, and the reader comes away from the process glad for having known Anna through this work and journey. It should be seriously considered by any individual, group or congregation looking for a more active manner of contemplation, self-discovery and spiritual growth.

We are using this book this Lent and it is fantastic. A solid resource for any Church or individual. Buy the book and your health and life will improve!

Excellent "Tool" for using to track and measure Lenten Disciplines - both physical and spiritual. Could be used for any 40-day period, but especially for Lent or possibly Advent. Short chapters are very on-point for the 40 Disciplines.Only problem I have is the point system for the non-physical activities are far too generous compared to the "Steps" count.

Did as a summer walking group. We enjoyed and have decided we will do again at a later date-maybe at Lent.

Enjoying the book our church group is doing the walk together. Some find it repetitive but that's what Jesus most have felt on his walk.

Excellent book to start moving and losing weight and helping others do the same. Thank you!
