My kids (5 & 6) LOVE telling jokes. After about the 10,000th same knock knock joke - it was time to broaden their horizons. The text is big and pretty easy for my 6 year old to read unassisted. Its a win-win. They get to embrace their comedic career and I know they're improving their reading skills.

For this summer vacation. I have to buy books for him to read . I am pretty sure that I choose a funny book for him. But it's too easy to read for 9 yrs old kids.

It didn't get here in time for Christmas, due to a number of factors not all of which were attributable to the vendor. Still, it was a gift for a 7 year old and she really likes it.

I bought it for my 7 year old cousin and he loved it he has had “joke shows” for the family.

Frank Miller had a really famous run with Marvel and the Daredevil comic starting in 1979. He started off as an artist working with Roger McKenzie who authored the comics in issue #158, which then moved to them collaborating on the plots in #165 until Miller took over the Daredevil comic in issue #169. Klaus Janson was his inker helping to bring his drawings and stories alive. That’s collected together in this first of three volumes.Miller got started with Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #27-28 that featured Daredevil, which are included. The story, penned by Bill Mantlo, is about Spider- Man being blinded by the Masked Marauder who leads the Maggia and threatens New York City with a bomb unless he gets paid a ransom. Daredevil comes to Parker’s aide. That relationship between the two brings a real human element to the comic, but the overall story is overblown and cliché.As for McKenzie, he has a real nice style. In this iteration of Daredevil he’s always in the shadows stalking people before the big fight. McKenzie adds to that with a bit of a hard boiled edge to his dialogue and commentary.When Miller took over the franchise he seems to have learned a lot from McKenzie and continued with the hard boiled/neo-noir style in his dialogue boxes. That meant there was more continuity than change when the switch took place.That’s also shown by the fact that there were several themes and characters that crossed over between the two. First, Matt Murdock was caught up fighting the underworld, which become centered around the Kingpin. At the same time, the mob put out a hit on DD which was taken up by Bullseye who appears in several comics in this collection.Overall the best comics collected in Volume 1 are #168 when Electra was introduced for the first time as an cutthroat doppelganger of Daredevil. In #169 Bullseye escapes from a mental institution and is so deranged from a tumor in his brain that he sees DD in every person that passes him. Another is #172 when the Kingpin works himself back into being the boss of New York’s underworld while DD has another confrontation with Bullseye.This is a great introduction to Miller’s work with Marvel. All the comics included are good with the exception of the two Spider-Man issues.

Some of the comics in this collection are some of my favorites I've ever read, they're harsh, unique, unpredictable, and extremely well done and entertaining, common traits of comics written by Frank Miller. However, only half or maybe less of the comics are written by Miller, the rest are only illustrated by Miller, so the storytelling is a little more generic. Not bad, really, but certainly not as good as the last handful in the collection. I still highly recommend, if nothing more than to get you ready for volume 2 which I really loved, also to witness Elektra's first appearance ever as well as Kingpin and Daredevil's first meeting.

Great pick up for any first time Daredevil reader. I think if you're new to the actual Daredevil comic realm after coming off the incredible and gritty Netflix series you might be thrown off by how lighthearted the actual stories are here, but you have to keep in mind that the comics collected here were written in 1979-1980, so don't expect to be getting Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns, modern Daredevil, etc.

Great collection. Frank Miller's writing and artwork definitely still holds up today. Only complaint is that the issues that predate Miller's tenure as writer do seem dated and sometimes ridiculous. (Daredevil shouldn't be in a public hospital with a bandage wrapped around his mask.) There not all bad though, and Miller's issues alone makes this a must have for any daredevil fan.

I purchased this item months ago and it disappeared off my tablet. To today I tried to see what I could do to get this item back into my tablet. So I went to purchase hoping it would say that I already purchase this item. Instead it purchase the item. So I went to cancel before the download could finish and was told my purchase was cancel. Not only did it take the money out for something I purchased months ago but I still don't have the book and can't download it unless I our it for a third time. What's going on with this? I shop Amazon all the time.

Daredevil is still a little campy, but the stories are still excellent (after issue 168.) Once you get to Miller's writing, it's the beginning of one of the best series.

Before Frank Miller pays his dues for "Wolverine" miniseries, "Daredevil: Born Again" story arc & "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel, he was an unknown artist who ends up saving Daredevil from being cancel by leading him into a whole new direction. This is Volume 1 of Frank Miller's stories of Daredevil which starts with "Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #27-28" where Daredevil was helping a blind Spider-Man. Then in "Daredevil #158-161 &163-164", it features the "Marked for Death" storyline where Black Widow bounces back into Daredevil's life as he takes on Deathstalker, Bullseye, & even go toe-to-toe with the Incredible Hulk. Then Daredevil told his trusted ally Ben Urich his secret identity & his origin story. Then in "Daredevil #165", Daredevil tangles with Doctor Octopus while telling Black Widow that he's in love with Heather Glenn which led to Black Widow leaving New York heartbroken. In "Daredevil #166", Matt Murdock's best friend & partner Foggy Nelson was getting married and in "Daredevil #167", Daredevil went up against the Mauler. Then in "Daredevil #168-169," Daredevil run into his old college sweetheart Elektra who is now a mercenary & once again battle Bullseye. In "Daredevil #170-172", it features the "Gang's War" storyline where Daredevil first goes toe-to-toe with the Kingpin.If you love Ann Nocerti's legendary run of "Daredevil", then you're going to love Frank Miller's legendary run because he's a genius. His run made him a star artist and these Daredevil stories prove it.

Nice, gritty drawings finely inked. Well written stories that didn't linger too much on back story. Look forward to picking up Vol. 2.

I heard Ada Limon read "Wonder Woman" on the radio, and was so moved by it, that I had to pick up the book. The collection is, to borrow a metaphor from a previous reviewer, a thunderstorm. It is slow to start - the first 18 poems didn't really grab me or really capture my imagination. But like a storm, the pressure builds until there is a tremendous release and torrent. So, too, here, as the remaining two-thirds of the collection really hit me where I live. Among my favorites are her "The Contract Says: We'd Like the Conversation to be Bi-lingual" in which Limon writes,"When you come, bring your brown-ness so we can be sure to pleasethe funders. Will you check thisbox; we're applying for a grant.Do you have any poems that speakto troubled teens? Bilingual is best. ..."Several of her poems seem to be of a more personal nature, which I struggled connecting with. Those that touched on issues of politics, race, gender and broader descriptions of relationships and life resonated more with me - like "Wonder Woman" and "Instructions on Not Giving Up":"More than the fuchsia funnels breaking outof the crabapple tree, more than the neighbor'salmost obscene display of cherry limbs shovingtheir cotton-candy colored blossoms to the slatesky of spring rains, its the greening of the treesthat really gets to me ..."I am glad that I pushed through the first section of the collection - the images, the perspectives, the emotions that Limon stirred in me through her poems were why I read poetry in the first place: they capture moments in time and open a door through which I can connect with the poet. A beautiful anthology.

Ada Limon’s poems are like a daydream. Consider your most peaceful moments—the contemplative, content ones where you get to observe a moment in your life as if it were in a museum. Consider thinking and not thinking, transcending thought, absorbing and experiencing, contributing and receiving. In The Carrying, Limon writes about her life with impressionistic grace, conjuring all the soaring triumph of a quiet moment during golden hour. She does this even when writing about what’s difficult: grappling with her struggles to have a child, struggling with self-image, considering what it means to love and be loved. Her poems are fiercely personal, and because of that they are universal in their beauty. Like all good poets, Ada Limon offers no answers through her work, but offers her company while we play with questions. The result is a comforting and deeply human collection that embodies the strength and curiosity of the nature she so frequently invokes. If you don’t know Ada Limon, I am envious of you. The only thing more perfect than experiencing her is discovering her.

Dominant themes: living with severe (often debilitating) medical issues, mortality, nature, parenting, infertility, self-worth, love. Those are what spoke to me – you may pull others. As with all collections of poetry some spoke to me more than others. I particularly enjoyed Trying, and those that similarly spoke to finding purpose in the face of mortality. The overall mood of the poems seemed depressing and dark, there was always a pall over the narrator; the narrator seemed to carry the weight of the world at all times. The author’s language was less figurative and more literal.

This is not a book of poems, this is a thunderstorm: electric, beautiful, alive. Sometimes painful and heartbreaking but always full of light.

Nothing can reach the pinnacle of Bright Dead Things but the poems here are head and shoulders above most contemporaries.

Without a doubt the best collection of poems to come along in years! Nevermind poetry, this is one of the best books (of all types) in 2018!

Well this is the best game, but I could not get passed borard 6. So I well be getting passed it in about 5-6 days.
